Research and networks

Standards-compliant strong-motion instruments with precise timing and open data, priced so you can put more measurement points on the ground for the same budget.

Trusted on critical assets

More coverage, same budget.

A seismic network is only as good as its density, and density is limited by the cost of a station. Traditional force-balance instruments are excellent and expensive, so the array ends up sparser than the science wants.

Canterbury Seismic's MEMS accelerographs give you standards-compliant strong-motion recording, precise GNSS and PTP timing and open data formats, at a station cost that lets you add points rather than ration them. The EQR-120 covers extended dynamic-range science; the EQR-90 puts dense, low-cost coverage where you need reach. Both stream into the network software you already run.

From a single station to a network

Start: one station. An EQR-90 for dense, low-cost strong-motion coverage, or an EQR-120 where extended dynamic range matters. Standalone, streaming to your data centre.

Standard: a network of stations on shared, precise timing, each outputting MiniSEED over SeedLink into your existing acquisition and processing software.

Extended: dense arrays and structural instrumentation on one EQR-C, mixing accelerographs, LVDT and weather on a single clock for research on structures, slopes or arrays.

The value: because a station costs less, the same programme budget reaches more sites. The EQR-90 is where that density story is strongest.

Trusted by researchers and networks

Our instruments are used by seismic research institutions and run in national and regional monitoring, developed and proven in New Zealand's natural earthquake laboratory over more than twenty years. Supplied and supported by the team that builds the hardware.

Over 20 years in the field

A team instrumenting dams, buildings and ports through real earthquakes since 2003, including the Canterbury sequence.

Support from the engineers

The people who answer your questions designed and built the instruments, so support is fast, competent and direct.

Delivered working

Design, supply, installation and commissioning from one team. You get a working system, not a crate of boxes to integrate.

One record, whole structure

Acceleration, displacement and weather on one synchronised clock, so engineers read the whole structure from a single record.

Fits your response plan

Thresholds in your own labels, with alerts and relays into your systems, so your EAP or TARP starts on a measured value.

Specs you can compare

Every figure comes with its conditions, like 128 dB over 0.1 to 20 Hz, so you can compare instruments like for like.

Your data, your tools

Raw time-series, MiniSEED, CSV and an open API. Run the record in the monitoring and control software you already use.

Open data, standard formats

Every instrument outputs MiniSEED, CSV and a programmatic HTTPS API, with SeedLink streaming, so it joins your network rather than replacing it.

GNSS, PTP and NTP timing give the synchronisation that array and network science depends on. The web interface is the console, with no subscription to run it, and the data is yours in open formats. If you run an existing seismic network, we supply the measurement layer that feeds your acquisition and analysis tools.

Research and networks questions

What data formats does it output?

MiniSEED, CSV and a programmatic HTTPS API, with SeedLink streaming, so it integrates directly with standard seismic-network acquisition and processing software.

How accurate is the timing?

Instruments discipline to GNSS, with PTP and NTP support, giving the microsecond-level synchronisation that array and network science requires.

Can it join our existing network?

Yes. It streams MiniSEED over SeedLink into the acquisition system you already run. We supply the measurement layer, not a replacement platform.

EQR-90 or EQR-120 for research?

The EQR-120 is an extended dynamic-range instrument for high-end science; the EQR-90 is the lower-cost unit for dense strong-motion coverage. Many networks mix both.

Do we need a subscription or proprietary software?

No. The web interface is the console, the data is yours in open formats, and there is no licence or subscription to run the instruments.

Is the data open?

Yes. Open, standard formats and a documented API. Your data stays yours.
